New product

Founded in 1884 as the name suggests, this is one of the oldest wineries in Mendoza.

This blended reserva wine is a classic combination of three of the worlds most famous grapes. Deep ruby red colour with violet tones, it has intense aromas of cassis and raspberries. The flavours of ripe black cherry fruits are certainly concentrated, but they are also softened by the soft, sweet tannins.

Escorihuela Reserve 1884 The President's Blend 2013

It was in 1880 when Miguel Escorihuela emigrated from Spain to Argentina. Bodegas Escorihuela is located in Mendoza the most important wine region in South America and birthplace of the best Malbec in the world.

13 months in new oak barrels, 60% French oak, 40% American oak.

Drink 2013-2020.

Grapes:     85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Shiraz

Region:     Argentina / Mendoza

Notes:      The 1884 President's Blend with the bouquet, which offers fresh, brambly black fruit infused with rose petals and jasmine. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry of fig and dark cherries. There is good backbone here, well-judged acidity and a harmonious, caressing, silky finish that offers blackberry, fig, sage and Provencal herbs.

Serve:       At 16c with a great Argentinian steak, venison, roast lamb or barbecued meats

ABV:         14%

With their own vineyards, mainly located in the premium high altitude vineyards of Mendoza, the 1884 and High Altitude ranges deliver consistent, award-winning, great value wines.

Malbec is a black-skinned grape variety native to south-western France (specifically the area around Cahors), but now better known as the iconic wine grape of Argentina. Through its success in the vineyards of Mendoza, in a few short decades Malbec has shot from relative obscurity to international fame, simultaneously bringing new-found attention and respect to Argentina as a wine-producing nation.

Malbec typically ripens midway through the growing season and produces small, intensely colored grapes. As it is so sensitive to its growing environment, the level of ripeness has a considerable effect on the structure of the eventual wine. Broadly speaking, French Malbec tends to be more meaty, rustic and tannic, while examples from Argentina seem to be uniformly rich, ripe, jammy and juicy. On both sides of the Atlantic, Malbec wines are generally aged in oak to enhance the wine’s structure and aging potential.
